Google Play

Screenshot text breaks Google Play’s rules

Google asks Play screenshots to avoid performance, ranking and price claims such as “Best”, “#1”, “Top”, “New”, “Discount” or “Sale”, and calls to action like “Download now”. Rewrite captions as plain benefits and keep them under 20% of the image.

“Do not include any content that reflects or suggests Google Play performance, ranking, accolades or awards, user testimonials, or price and promotional information.”

You’ll see this when…

  • Captions include “#1”, “Best”, “Free” or “Sale”.
  • Taglines cover a large part of the image.
  • A screenshot quotes a review or award.

How to fix it

  1. Replace claims with what the user gets.
  2. Shrink captions to a single line where possible.
  3. Remove review quotes and award badges.
