Messy status bar in screenshots

A status bar with low battery, a carrier name or notifications looks unpolished, and Google Play explicitly asks for full battery, Wi-Fi and signal with no notifications. Override it before you capture: `xcrun simctl status_bar` on iOS, demo mode on Android.

“Edit excess elements in the notification bar before submitting. Do not show service providers or notifications. The battery, WiFi, and cell service logos should be full.”

You’ll see this when…

  • Screenshots show the real time, low battery or notification icons.
  • Different screens show different times.

How to fix it

  1. iOS Simulator: run `xcrun simctl status_bar booted override --time 9:41 --batteryState charged --batteryLevel 100 --cellularBars 4 --wifiBars 3`.
  2. Android: enable System UI demo mode (adb shell settings put global sysui_demo_allowed 1), then send demo commands for clock, battery and network.
  3. Capture all screens in one session so the bar is identical.

Frequently asked questions

Why 9:41 in iPhone screenshots?

It is Apple’s long-standing convention in marketing images; it isn’t required, but a consistent, clean time looks deliberate.

Does Apple reject messy status bars?

Apple’s screenshot specification sets no rules for what the status bar shows, but a clean one looks professional. Google Play explicitly asks for it.

Can I fix the status bar after capture?

It’s much easier to override it before capturing; editing pixels afterwards often leaves artifacts.
