App Store & Google Play Character Counter

Paste your store text to see it against every App Store Connect and Google Play limit, live: app name 30, subtitle 30, promotional text 170, keywords 100 bytes, and Play’s 80-character short description. A caption field also checks screenshot headlines for length and words Google Play asks you to avoid.

App Store

Google Play

Screenshot caption

  • 4 words (our composer suggests at most 5)
  • About 2 lines on an iPhone screenshot (aim for 2 or fewer)
  • No words from Google Play’s avoid list

How it works

  • Limits come from App Store Connect Help (name, subtitle, promotional text, keywords, description) and Play Console Help (name, short and full description).
  • Apple’s keyword field is counted in UTF-8 bytes, as Apple specifies; everything else in characters.
  • Caption lines are estimated with our composer’s text metrics at its default iPhone headline size, the same rule it uses to warn about long copy.
  • Flagged words are ones Google Play’s guidelines ask screenshots and feature graphics to avoid.

Frequently asked questions

How long can an App Store subtitle be?

30 characters. The app name is also limited to 30 (minimum 2).

Why are App Store keywords counted in bytes?

Apple limits the keyword field to 100 bytes, not characters. Accented letters and non-Latin scripts use more than one byte each in UTF-8, so they fill the field faster.

How long should a screenshot caption be?

Short enough to read in search results: our composer flags headlines over five words or two lines. Google Play also asks taglines to stay under 20% of the image.
