Google Play Store Screenshot Generator

To make Google Play screenshots, lay them out at 9:16 and export at 1080 × 1920 px or larger, because Google rejects images whose long side is more than twice the short side. AppShotEditor does this in your browser with Pixel frames, for free and without a watermark.

Best size
1080 × 1920 (9:16) or larger
Allowed
320–3840 px, max 2:1
Count
2–8 per device type
Also needed
Feature graphic, 1024 × 500

Example

A 9:16 set in the Pixel 9 Pro XL frame. Each screen downloads at 1080 × 1920 with no alpha channel.

How to do it

  1. 1

    Capture

Take screenshots on an Android emulator or phone. Clean up the status bar first: full battery and signal, no notifications.

  2. 2

    Canvas

    Open the example, or choose Page Setup → Custom → 270 × 480 for a 9:16 canvas.

  3. 3

    Design

Drop screenshots into a Pixel frame and keep each tagline short; Google asks that text take no more than 20% of the image.

  4. 4

    Export

Export with Custom Size 1080 × 1920 as JPEG (custom-size PNGs keep transparency) and upload at least four to qualify for Play’s recommendation formats.

The rules Google checks

Google’s Play Console help lists the requirements. The ones that most often cause trouble:

  • The long side may be at most twice the short side. 1320 × 2868 iPhone screenshots are 2.17:1 and fail.
  • JPEG or 24-bit PNG only, with no alpha channel.
  • At least 4 screenshots at 1080 px or more (9:16 or 16:9) for apps to be eligible for the large recommendation formats.
  • No ranking or price claims (“Best”, “#1”, “Top”, “New”, “Sale”), and no calls to action like “Download now”.
  • Google’s list for its recommendation formats also says to avoid device imagery. Device frames are allowed in screenshots, but a frameless or minimal frame keeps you eligible; decide per app.

Reusing your App Store set

You can’t upload App Store screenshots unchanged: modern iPhone sizes are too tall. Duplicate the project, switch the canvas to 9:16, swap the iPhone frames for Pixel frames and re-export. Headlines, colours and layout carry over because they are layers, not pixels.

Don’t forget the feature graphic

Every Google Play listing also needs a 1024 × 500 feature graphic. Google asks for no device imagery on it, and for the logo and app name to stay away from the edges. Our feature graphic generator page has a ready-made layout.

Frequently asked questions

What size should Google Play screenshots be?

Use 1080 × 1920 (9:16 portrait) or a larger 9:16 size such as 1440 × 2560. Google accepts 320–3840 px per side, but its recommendation formats want 9:16 or 16:9 at 1080 px or more.

Why is my screenshot rejected by Google Play?

The most common causes are an aspect ratio taller than 2:1, an alpha channel in a PNG, or a size outside 320–3840 px. The free size checker tests all three.

Which Android frames are included?

Google Pixel 9 Pro and Google Pixel 9 Pro XL. Phone frames are free.

Can I add text to Google Play screenshots?

Yes. Google recommends taglines only where they help and asks that they take no more than 20% of the image.
