Google Play Phone screenshots: Size and Rules

Google Play phone screenshots must be JPEG or 24-bit PNG, 320–3840 px per side, with the long side no more than twice the short side. Use 1080 × 1920 (9:16) or larger and upload at least four to be eligible for Play’s large recommendation formats.

Google’s rules for phone screenshots

  • You need at least two screenshots across all device types to publish a store listing.
  • You can add up to 8 screenshots for each supported device type.
  • The longest side can’t be more than twice the shortest side.
  • For apps: at least four screenshots at 1080 px minimum (9:16 portrait ≥ 1080 × 1920, 16:9 landscape ≥ 1920 × 1080) to be eligible for recommendation formats. Games: at least three.
  • Taglines should not take up more than 20% of the image.
  • Do not use words like “Best”, “#1”, “Top”, “New”, “Discount”, “Sale” or “Million Downloads”, and no calls to action such as “Download now”.
  • Show full battery, Wi-Fi and cell icons; do not show carriers or notifications in the status bar.
  • Among the guidelines Google lists for its recommendation formats: avoid device imagery, because it can date quickly or alienate some users.
