Blurry or stretched screenshots
Screenshots look blurry when a small capture is upscaled and stretched when it is forced into a different aspect ratio; Google Play explicitly asks for no blurry, distorted or stretched images. Capture at the target device’s native size and lay it out on a canvas of the right ratio instead of resizing.
“Do not include screenshots that are blurry, distorted, or pixelated in a way that is not an intentional aspect of your brand. Do not include images that are stretched or compressed.”
You’ll see this when…
- Text looks soft or has halos.
- UI looks squashed or tall.
- A 1179 × 2556 capture was stretched to 1320 × 2868.
How to fix it
- Capture on the largest device you target (e.g. a 6.9-inch simulator).
- Place captures in a frame on the right canvas rather than stretching them.
- Export PNG, or JPEG at high quality.
Frequently asked questions
Does App Store Connect blur my screenshots?
It scales your largest set down for smaller sizes, which keeps them sharp. Blur usually comes from upscaling before upload.
Is it OK to resize a screenshot slightly?
Downscaling is fine. Upscaling or changing the aspect ratio causes blur or distortion.
PNG or JPEG for sharp text?
PNG is lossless. If you need JPEG, use high quality.
