App Store

Rejected under Guideline 2.3.3

Guideline 2.3.3 rejects screenshots that show only title art, a login page or a splash screen instead of the app in use. Replace those screens with real in-app screens; text and image overlays on top of them are allowed.

“Screenshots should show the app in use, and not merely the title art, login page, or splash screen. They may also include text and image overlays.”

You’ll see this when…

  • A screenshot is all marketing art with no app UI.
  • The first screen is the sign-in screen.
  • The set shows a splash screen or logo only.

How to fix it

  1. Replace every art-only screen with a screen of the app doing its job.
  2. Keep your headline: overlays are explicitly allowed.
  3. Make sure the UI shown is in the current build.
  4. Resubmit; screenshots are reviewed with the version.

What a passing set looks like

A compliant pattern: a headline overlay on top of real app screens.

Frequently asked questions

Can App Store screenshots include text?

Yes. Guideline 2.3.3 says they may include text and image overlays, as long as the app in use is shown.

Is a login screen allowed in screenshots?

Not on its own. A set made only of title art, a login page or a splash screen breaks 2.3.3.

Can one screenshot be pure marketing art?

It is risky: the guideline asks screenshots to show the app in use. Put the message over real UI instead.
