Cover display (outer display)
A cover display, or outer display, is the screen on the outside of a foldable phone that you use while it is closed. On iPhone Duo it is the 5.4-inch outer display, and Apple lists a separate App Store screenshot size for it: 1398 × 2034 px (2034 × 1398 landscape).
Apple’s page calls it the “outer display”; “cover display” is the common industry name for the same screen.
At aspect 0.687 it is far wider than a regular iPhone screenshot, even though the screen itself is small, so it needs its own layout and its own captures.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need screenshots for the cover display?
Apple lists the outer display as its own iPhone Duo size. If you submit iPhone Duo screenshots, add a set for each display your app supports.
Can I shrink my inner-display screenshots for the outer display?
Not exactly: the shapes differ (0.703 inner, 0.687 outer). Copy the design and adjust it; in AppShotEditor, “Create outer from inner” does the copy.
Is there a cover display mockup?
Yes. AppShotEditor has a free iPhone Duo outer display frame with a 1398 × 2034 screen area.
