How do I remove the alpha channel from a PNG?
Flatten the image onto a solid background and save it as an RGB PNG: our free alpha channel remover does it in your browser, and on a Mac, Preview’s File → Export with “Alpha” unticked does the same. Saving as JPEG also removes alpha.
The output keeps the same pixel size, so it still matches the screenshot slot.
- RGB PNG (accepted)3 channels
- RGBA PNG (rejected)4 channels
Frequently asked questions
Does removing alpha reduce quality?
No. Only transparent pixels change, to your chosen background colour.
Is there a command-line way?
Yes, for example with ImageMagick: magick in.png -background white -alpha remove -alpha off out.png
Why does my design tool keep adding alpha?
Many export PNG as RGBA by default; look for a “transparency” or “alpha” option in export settings.
